And it's important when establishing custody schedules and determining appropriate visitation that you have the help of an experienced specialist that knows what they're doing and understands your child's needs. Wynns Family Psychology offers professional custody consultations and comprehensive evaluation services that give your child a voice in the separation process. Unlike many, our custody evaluators are uniquely trained and qualified child specialists with expertise in child development, divorce, and custody issues. And we’re passionate about helping kids minimize divorce-related stress and educating parents on which custody arrangements are best-suited for them. And we provide thorough reports with extensive recommendations in a very timely manner—where other evaluators take months, we turnaround quality results in weeks.

But becasue Wynns Family Psychology understands there are no "one-size-fits-all" custody services, a full custody evaluation isn't always necessary. We find many families don’t need a formal custody evaluation requiring months of time and thousands of dollars. We find many couples want to “cut to the chase” and get feedback about the relevant issues affecting the child, recommendations for a parenting plan or visitation schedule, or answers to specific questions (“What is appropriate for my child to call the new step-mother?”) We like to sort through the mess that often accompanies a divorce and focus on the most salient issues for the children. As such, we offer a wide variety of customizable services for families going through custody disputes—ranging from quick and informal (geared towards collaborative and cooperative parents) to extensive and formal (often helpful for “high-conflict” or complicated divorces). ----- We offer a customizable range of services, from visitation plans for cooperative parents to extensive, formal evaluations for high-conflict custody disputes. We thoroughly research and review each case to understand a family’s unique situation and assess a child’s specific needs and challenges. This information is used to produce comprehensive and timely reports with custom recommendations. We competently sort through the complexities of divorce, collaborate with parents, and determine what is in the best interest of children.

How Our Custody Evaluations and Consultations Are Helpful—

We Provide Developmentally Appropriate Recommendations:
Many custody evaluators are not “child specialists.” At Wynns Family Psychologists, we're specially trained child psychologists with expertise in child development and custody/divorce related issues. We work with kids every day… we get on the floor and play with kids… we talk with kids…. we understand their needs. And we apply that expertise to answer questions related to the following:
• When and how many overnights are appropriate for your
child, based on his or her age?
• How will a long commute or out-of-state visitation affect
your child?
• How should significant others or step-parents be introduced
and what role should he or she have?
• How can conflict between parents be reduced?
• How can communication be improved between parents?

difficulty making transitions back and forth?


We Offer Settlement Conferences:
Approximately 95% of all cases settle. After receiving your feedback summary or recommendations it's likely you and your ex will attempt to reach an agreement. Our presence can help speed this process along as we answer questions families and attorneys have about options being considered. We participate in brainstorming healthy solutions.

We Provide Expert Witness Testimony:
We're comfortable testifying in court, providing a “voice” for children, and educating the court about what is in the best interest of your child. We can testify to very specific questions (i.e. which school system is a better fit for your child, how much time is appropriate for your child to visit a parent out of state, how are children functioning in your current arrangement) or broad developmental issues relevant to custody or visitation questions.

Options for Parenting Plan Consults and Custody Evaluations

Consultation

This is the briefest of the consults. Parents meet me, describe the child(ren), describe their parenting strengths and limitations as well as practical concerns, explain their initial thoughts about custody and visitation, and share any concerns or uncertainties they are facing in making a decision. I will ask several questions to gather additional relevant information. This consult includes an interview with parents and an interview with the child(ren) [if the child is over the age of three, otherwise a play based assessment is conducted], plus as needed, a review of relevant school and/or medical/psychological records with collateral interviews of professionals. Based on the information presented and our expertise of child development and parenting plans, I then verbally share my thoughts with the parents regarding what would likely be some good parenting plan arrangements for their child and family unit. This consultation is also helpful when parents have specific questions about transitions to a two home family, how a child is handling the divorce or separation, what are developmental concerns for a child of a certain age to consider, how to introduce significant others, or other specific questions related to divorce/separation. Parents can also request written recommendations or a short report. This is sometimes helpful to share with attorneys to aid in settlement. (Fee: $200.00 per hour.)

Evaluation

This evaluation includes all of the components of the Consultation, plus observation of each parent and child(ren). I will offer a written summary to the parents regarding what would likely be the best possible parenting plan arrangements for their child and family unit. (Fee: $5,750.00 flat fee for family of up to four. Over four: Additional $500.00 fee each child.)

Evaluation with Testing Battery

This evaluation includes all of the components of the Evaluation, plus testing of the parents and child. I will offer a written summary to the parents regarding what would likely be the best possible parenting plan arrangements for their child and family unit. (Fee: $7,000.00 flat fee for a family of up to four. Over four: Additional $650.00 fee for each additional.)

Extended Evaluation

This evaluation includes all of the components of the Evaluation with Testing Battery, plus additional collateral contact reviews, such as with caretakers, grandparents, neighbors, etc. I will offer a written summary to the parents regarding what would likely be the best possible parenting plan arrangements for their child and family unit. (Fee: $8000.00 flat fee for a family of up to four. Over four: Additional $500.00 fee for each additional.)

Settlement Conference

Approximately 95% of all cases settle. After receiving your feedback summary it is most likely you and your spouse will attempt to reach an agreement. My presence can help speed this process along as I can answer any questions parties or attorneys may have about options being considered, and can participate in brainstorming healthy solutions. (Fee: $250.00 per hour port to port; I am also happy to host the settlement conference at my office as a neutral ground.)

Extended Report

My standard written summary is economical and includes all of the information needed to reach settlement: summary points of all interviews, testing, and observations, plus my thoughts on what would likely be the best possible parenting plan arrangements for the child and family unit. However, should the case proceed to court, you will need an extended report that includes more background information to orient the judge to the case, written descriptions of all tests (I provide this to you verbally otherwise), and a lengthier description of all aspects of the evaluation. (Fee: $2,000.00)

Expert Witness Testimony

I am comfortable testifying in court and providing a “voice” for the child(ren) and educating the court about what is in the best interest of the child. I can testify to very specific questions (e.g., what school system appears to be a better fit for the child, how much time is appropriate for a child to visit a parent out of state, how do the children appear to be functioning in the current arrangement) or more broad developmental issues relevant to custody or visitation questions. Fee: $350/hour. I require ½ of the hourly estimate to hold the date for settlement conferences, depositions, or testimony, with the balance due 72 hours prior to the date. Minimum estimate is 4 hours to include drive time, prep time, and court time = $1400 ($700 to hold the date).

Consultation with Attorneys

to provide feedback and insight about most significant concerns to focus on in a trial or settlement, important questions to raise in the trial, or reasonable custody arrangements given a child’s age, special needs, time spent with a specific parent, etc.

Psychological Evaluations of the Parent(s)

Many times one parent has raised concerns about the other parent’s mental health. We can provide comprehensive psychological evaluations and provide an assessment of the parent’s mental health and parenting fitness.

Therapy and Consultations
